“For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit (Hebrews 4:12, NAS)…”
Just as there was the Promise to Abraham and his descendants, singularly and collectively, there are also individual promises, plural, that we can reap through obedience. Jesus bore the curse, singular, of all mankind on the cross, but there are curses, plural (such as the problems with husbands and wives), that need to be broken individually after salvation by properly applying the blood Christ provided.
Adam was not in love with God although God created him in His own image to love Him. God breathed life into Adam just as He breathes life into all who call upon His name. Holy Spirit was present, but his spirit was still attached to his soul (mind, will, and emotions). Only with the separation of the soul and spirit by the Living Word of God is Holy Spirit allowed to function from the inside out. Adam’s spirit still lay dormant because God dealt with Him externally. Holy Spirit, though present, was not allowed to rule. Adam’s soul quenched Holy Spirit and eventually, Adam’s mind, will and emotions overtook him and they ruled in the stead of Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit was not properly applied.
We see this in multitudes of believers who receive Holy Spirit at salvation, but still allow their soul to control them. Their soul is still reigning as the authority instead of Holy Spirit. This is why people in the Body of Christ still act foolishly though they profess Christ. Once Adam and Eve ate (consumed) of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, knowledge divided their souls from their spirits (just like the power of the Sword of the Spirit) immediately. An awakening occurred, just not the desired one.
We’ll pick up here next week as we continue with The Root of the Problem and understanding the requirements of knowledge. If you are interested in reading more, check out my website to order my books, or go to my Facebook ministry page where I post regularly. Blessings!
