Dead Flesh, Living Spirit, part V

The Natural Becomes Unnatural:

I once heard it said at a Chuck Pierce/Dutch Sheets conference, we should all desire and pray that “the natural will become unnatural and the supernatural of God become natural.” Translation: you should be so in tune with and led by Holy Spirit that acting worldly (fleshly) becomes unnatural, and operating supernaturally, like God, becomes everyday life.

Let’s recall Galatians 5:16-21. First, it reads, “the desire of the flesh,” not “desires” plural. The flesh has one ultimate goal, one single desire: to do everything contrary to God and holiness. Satan destroys man by the lures of this world; it is the fleshly nature that is drawn by the devil. This whole battle mankind experiences is Satan against God. Man is merely a pawn Satan utilizes to defeat God. You know that ultimately God wins, but, Satan is overcome by God through man. You are crucial in this war!

Each one of us are guilty of at least one sin led by fleshly desire, even the nicest, kindest, most moral person. Just because a person does nice things does not mean they are led by Holy Spirit. Scads of “moral” people are without Christ and sentenced to hell. When Holy Spirit is in control, all attributes of Holy Spirit, the entire nature of God, will come from you: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control, compassion, mercy, humility, mercy and compassion. These describe the very essence and nature of God. When God has been allowed to consume you, this is what the world will witness and they will be drawn to God in you us, not you the person.

When you give all over to Christ, automatically the desire of the flesh will begin to fall away; not that it is necessarily easy as one thinks of easy, but Holy Spirit will override the fleshly desire. Only one can be in control – Holy Spirit or the flesh. By inserting the Light within and then allowing Holy Spirit to commune with your spirit, He begins to show you every wicked way in you, whether on the surface or buried deeply within. In doing so, you may confess and repent and be made whole. No one knows what to confess until it is revealed. The majority of Christians flounder in their faith because they have no idea of the root of their problem in life. You do not know where to begin the cleaning unless you allow Him to reveal it.

The Human Race:

The human race as a whole is a disaster. Each generation is worse than the last. Remember the law of increase instituted by God back in the Garden? That law is still in motion. Because of the curse sentenced to man, the law works against you instead of for you. You need to buckle down, stop running around doing, doing, doing all the time and begin to focus on developing a truly personal relationship with God.

After the cleansing, blessings that have been hindered from your grasp and your family for generations can now begin to flow into and through you. How marvelous is God’s unfailing compassion and mercy!

Romans 8:10-13: If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.  So then, brethren, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh—for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

New Origin:

I Corinthians 15:42-49 (NAS): So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown a perishable body, it is raised an imperishable body; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. So also it is written, “The first man, Adam, became a living soul.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit. However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural; then the spiritual. The first man is from the earth, earthy; the second man is from heaven. As is the earthy, so also are those who are earthy; and as is the heavenly, so also are those who are heavenly. Just as we have borne the image of the earthy, we will also bear the image of the heavenly.

Technically, Adam’s fall was God ordained. Adam had to fall in his natural body so as to find and receive his spirit-man while continuing to live in his mortal shell. Our natural origin is of the earth like Adam. Through death to our fleshly nature we can receive life from the heavenly origin through the life-giving Spirit. Once we receive Christ, our origin changes while we still inhabit a natural body; hence we are “strangers” in this land.

Our origin is now from the Kingdom of Heaven and not from earth. We are to take extra good care of the physical body while in it; it’s called good stewardship. We are to dress it respectfully; it is the temple of the living God. Our body is the necessary packaging God needs to perform in the earthly realm. We are not to mutilate it, maim it or hurt it in any way. The difference now is that we care for it on His behalf instead of our own.

Eternal Life:

John 17:3-5 (NAS) Now this is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent. I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave Me to do. And now, Father, glorify Me in Your presence with the glory I had with You before the world began.

Please know with full assurance that God does, always has and always will, work all things for good for those who love Him (Genesis 50:20; Romans 8:28). There is nothing that slips by Him. Satan means everything against God’s people for evil, no question about it. Adam simply did not know how to be led by anything other than his soul. That in itself would be considered knowledge and he had none.

Since Adam’s death, death is no longer the punishment, but rather the gift (Romans 6:1-11)! Satan meant death unto mankind as evil, but God meant it to us for our good and God’s good, glory and honor. Yeshua knew that Adam would fall. He also knew that anytime He is loved by any person who chooses death for His sake is humble and truly loves Him. Humility defeats the enemy and death is the ultimate level of humility.

This does not mean muttering some sinner’s prayer. This is total sell out to God. This is saying, “Lord, all I have and all I am is Yours. Do with me what You will. I put my complete faith in You. I believe, help me with my unbelief. Here I am. You are my God and I am Your people.”

Salvation is not the end, but the beginning of an incredible over the top journey with God here on earth. There is nothing so incredible as a sold out life with Christ; to have Him speak into your spirit directly and to guide your every move!

The Curse:

“The Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, cursed are you more than all cattle…on your belly you will go, and dust you will eat all the day of your life…cursed is the ground because of you; in toil you will eat of it all the days of your life (Genesis 3:14 & 17, NIV).”

God said there is a curse on the ground (from whence man came) and that Satan would “eat dust” all the days of his life. As Watchman Nee points out in Love Not the World, Adam is “dust” and he is “from the ground.” Authority has been given to Satan to eat or rather, devour man who is dust (of the ground). Because Adam is of the ground, any and every generation to come from Adam is irreversibly cursed to be devoured by the evil one. Only death will suffice to be freed of the curse and to attain a new life separate from the curse.

“Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might stretch out his hand, and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever (Genesis 3:22, NIV).”

God says, “Like One of Us,” not “like Us,” in the Trinity’s totality. After eating of the fruit, man became “like God” in the fact that Adam and Eve then knew good and evil. We could aptly say that they knew evil intimately. Evil was inside them and they became aware of it. They merged with evil because Holy Spirit was not awakened inside of them to allow them to overcome it. And so, the transformation of being “like Us” was still incomplete and could not be tolerated to come to fruition.

“Since tasting knowledge,” He states, “he (man) might stretch out his hand and take from the tree of life (the other tree) and eat and live forever (like the Trinity).” God was saying that, in fact, man, if allowed to stay in the garden, would continue to eat of the tree of life allowing them to be as God Himself and live forever, like God yet wicked. This is why they had to be removed and eventually physically die.

Man, the fleshly man, cannot live forever. Sinful flesh cannot be accepted in the presence of God. There can be and will always be only one God. For this same reason, Satan’s pride of desiring to be as God was cast from the presence of God. Man sinned exactly as did Satan, therefore reaping the same penalty: expulsion and death eternal.

“Therefore the Lord God sent him out from the Garden of Eden, to cultivate the ground from which he was taken (Genesis 3:23, NIV).”

Man’s punishment was to labor over the very ground/dust from which he came, now destined to be eaten, consumed, and destroyed by Satan. Adam and Eve brought this on themselves. Although they both tried to pass the buck of guilt, that was unacceptable behavior in the presence of the Almighty. They had to take responsibility for their own actions. They sowed rebellion and reaped death. Regardless of who sinned first or last, death was the punishment for all.

How utterly wicked, vile and corrupt is the very core of man that God would have to send a cherubim (Genesis 3:24) with a flaming sword. Obviously, He knew that man would try again and again to overtake the garden to get to the tree of life to attain “godship,” to overthrow God. Let me add that God in His sovereignty, even after all of this, allows us to be like One of Them. He sent Jesus Christ, One of Them, to bear our transgressions that we may die with Him and, after death (spiritually), live a Spirit-filled life on this earth.

God is now giving us exactly what Adam and Eve wanted, but sinned to attain: knowledge. Now, we have to be obedient unto death to our fleshly nature to attain knowledge so as to live.

Requirements of Knowledge:

“When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loin coverings (Genesis 3:6-7, NAS).”

Notice that their eyes were not opened when she ate, but when he ate. When Adam ate, then their eyes were opened (awakened). This is because Adam was the authority God set in place. Their spiritual eyes were now opened. They knew what God knew. Immediately knowledge of God came forth as they ate of the tree. Therefore, just as God warned, death was imminent. This is a curse that cannot and will not be reversed; it comes to all flesh which brings us back to the necessity of dying to the nature of the flesh so as to allow Holy Spirit life to rule whilst we remain in physical human form.

The requirement, aka payment, to receive the knowledge of God is death. From then until this day, to receive true knowledge of and from God, who He is, how He is, and to gain understanding and wisdom that is from above, death has to transpire. A person who is alive only in the natural, though he can on his own gain information, can never grasp the truth of that which is spiritual.

God is spirit; hence, it stands to reason that it’s only when you consign the natural man to God (death) so as to allow your spirit-man to become awakened (life) will you be capable of attaining knowledge. The toll for Adam and Eve to gain the knowledge of good and evil was death and so it is today.

To reiterate, the tree of knowledge of good and evil had the same effect as the Sword of the Spirit. He ate and he knew. When you eat the Word of God, the Sword that divides, your soul and spirit are instantly divided. This eating does not mean sitting around day in and day out touching, looking at, hearing, or even reading the Bible. It means to purpose to consume (ingest, take into self, become one with, die to self) all that is God. Ezekiel was commanded to eat the scroll, the Word of God.

 Proper Application:

“For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit (Hebrews 4:12, NAS)…”

Just as there was the Promise to Abraham and his descendants, singularly and collectively, there are also individual promises, plural, that we can reap through obedience. Jesus bore the curse, singular, of all mankind on the cross, but there are curses, plural (such as the problems with husbands and wives), that need to be broken individually after salvation by properly applying the blood Christ provided.

Adam was not in love with God although God created him in His own image to love Him. God breathed life into Adam just as He breathes life into all who call upon His name. Holy Spirit was present, but his spirit was still attached to his soul (mind, will, and emotions). Only with the separation of the soul and spirit by the Living Word of God is Holy Spirit allowed to function from the inside out. Adam’s spirit still lay dormant because God dealt with Him externally. Holy Spirit, though present, was not allowed to rule. Adam’s soul quenched Holy Spirit and eventually, Adam’s mind, will and emotions overtook him and they ruled in the stead of Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit was not properly applied.

We see this in multitudes of believers who receive Holy Spirit at salvation, but still allow their soul to control them. Their soul is still reigning as the authority instead of Holy Spirit. This is why people in the Body of Christ still act foolishly though they profess Christ. Once Adam and Eve ate (consumed) of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, knowledge divided their souls from their spirits (just like the power of the Sword of the Spirit) immediately. An awakening occurred, just not the desired one.

We’ll pick up here next week as we continue with The Root of the Problem and understanding the requirements of knowledge. If you are interested in reading more, check out my website to order my books, or go to my Facebook ministry page where I post regularly. Blessings!

Understanding Submission:

Ephesians 5:21 (KJV), 22-28 (NAS): Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God…Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body. But as the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless. So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself.

Submission: the action or fact of accepting or yielding to a superior force or to the will or authority of another person.

Adam’s place was not only to say “no” to Eve, but also to lovingly direct her to say “no” to the enemy. This is the very reason that women (generally speaking) set the standard in a relationship with a man whether it is spiritual, sexual, financial, or other. Adam allowed the woman to set the standard, therefore, so it naturally is today. God gave the authority to Adam to set a standard and this is the one he chose. This cycle must be broken from homes. Of necessity, the rightful role of authority needs to be handed back to the husband by the wife, and the husband needs to hand authority back to Christ. In this, both the husband and the wife are in proper alignment with Holy Spirit and peace will rule.

When done properly, the woman will no longer have to run things. She will become her husband’s helper – neither will have to dominate the other as they will operate in their God-ordained role – they will live harmoniously instead of nearly killing one another with poor attitudes, harsh words or devastating silence. They will better handle difficulties and disagreements.

The Body of Christ is instructed that the wife is to submit to her husband, but equally the husband is to submit to God. We are also instructed to “submit one to another” so that the greater good of the Kingdom of God will manifest in the earth. Because of the rebellion of both Adam and Eve, the power struggle continues this day. No one seems to want to humble themselves one to another; wife to husband, husband to wife, both to God. Imagine a world where both people in a marriage were so set on pleasing Yahweh that humility reigned. Wow! Neither would ever have to beg, whine, or use controlling manipulation. When you can get to the root of any problem, it can be resolved.

There is a looming curse over women dating all the way back to Eve as we see in Genesis 3:6. Eve was led by the lust of her flesh. Just as Adam gave up authority to Eve, Eve sought to possess authority hot and heavy; so much so that she didn’t just want Adam’s authority, but God’s! Thusly, she brought a controlling, manipulative evil spirit upon women. Women all over the world nag their husbands to step up to the proverbial plate, but often, when he does finally decide to do so, most of the time the wife resists.

Women have an innate desire to control, coerce and manipulate. Many women say with their lips, “You need to be a man and take charge,” yet actions speak a very different message. Wives need to allow husbands to make decisions even if it means letting them make mistakes along the way. Women with sons, teach them how to be men of God. It’s time to relinquish headship over to the husbands and husbands give headship to Christ.

Women are to submit, not control. Men are to love their wives as Christ loves the Church, not control. This will lead both to submit one to another because they are submitting first to Christ. By understanding the lack of Holy Spirit leading in Adam, Eve and the modern day Christ-follower, it’s easy to recognize how the problem has escalated over time. Since Jesus bore the curse of the nature of the flesh for all mankind, by properly applying His blood, there’s no reason for you to continue in Adam and Eve’s footsteps.

Once you begin to seek first the Kingdom of God, you’ll begin to delve into the Kingdom Constitution (Bible) and desire most earnestly to pledge your allegiance to the King, His Kingdom and His edicts. Submission will not longer be an impossibility, but altogether supernaturally natural.

“But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When He was hung on the cross, He took upon Himself the curse for our wrongdoing. For it is written in the Scriptures, ‘Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree (Galatians 3:13, NLT).’”
