Know Your Authority, part I

Pulling Down Imaginations and Strongholds:

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying imaginations and every high thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ, and we are ready to punish all disobedience, whenever your obedience is complete. You are looking at things as they are outwardly. If anyone is confident in himself that he is Christ’s, let him consider this again within himself, that just as he is Christ’s, so also are we. For even if I boast somewhat further about our authority, which the Lord gave for building you up and not for destroying you, I will not be put to shame (II Corinthians 10:3-4, NAS).”

You have authority through the blood to pull down imaginations and strongholds that arise within us. Before you go into any battle for someone or something, you must first have yourself clean. Here’s the breakdown of the instruction of II Corinthians 10:3-4:

  • Imaginations:     have you ever let your mind wander into some out of whack place? It could be imagining having an affair, stealing from your company, lying to get out of something, and so on. Imaginations that are not led by Christ lead people away from God, not toward God. You are not to allow your mind to wander. Take control over it. You are to operate with the sound mind of Christ (Philippians 2:5). In purity, imaginations are what allow you to have visions from God and see them through to fruition. Those visions bring hope to the believer and salvation to the unbeliever.
  • Strongholds:     anything that has a grip on you that would hinder you from being all God created you to be. A stronghold can be holding on to the past, bitterness, anger, greed, jealousy, addictions, or countless other things that seem stronger than Christ in you. When you are led by the Spirit, you will want to pull them down to keep them from oppressing you.
  • Pulling Down:     it is not as much praying as it is commanding those things that hinder you to leave. Commanding things to leave is part of the authority God gave you over your own person. When things try to get in my head, I speak out loud so that demonic forces coming against me can hear, “I command you, in the name of Jesus, to be loosed from your assignment over me (name what it is).” Then I begin to replace them with whatever of God is the opposite. If impatience, replace it with the patience of Christ; if anger, peace; if hatred, love; if sorrow and depression, joy; anxiety, calm; if impurity, purity.

Know How to Battle:

By knowing who we are in Christ, the power we have and the authority we possess to utilize such power, we will recognize just how in love God is with you. With that revelation, you will turn and fall deeply in love with God and you will never want to displease Him again. By getting to know Him on an intimate level, you will see that all He asks of you is for you, not against you.

Likewise, you will begin to see past the flesh of others. You will begin to see with the vision of Holy Spirit and then you will stop fighting everyone in the natural and begin to war with your authority through prayer. You will begin to war in the spirit realm as God intended. Satan’s tactic is to rally everyone against each other in a billion petty ways to keep us fighting against one another so as to divide God’s Kingdom. When you begin to see through the eye of God, you will seek to know how to battle through prayer and declaration instead of fighting against the flesh.

We’ll pick up here next time as we continue with, Know Your Authority, from my first book, What was God Thinking? Why Adam had to Die. If you are interested in reading more, check out my website to order my books!

Life and Death, part I

The Pain of Death:

Ever wonder why physical death is so incredibly painful even when those we know are with the Lord in heaven upon their death or even if our loved one was elderly and ready to die? This is so because we were not created to physically die therefore the one losing the loved one has great difficulty accepting a loved one’s death. This may sound like a contradiction given the last seven chapters, but let me see if I can explain.

God had no desire for mankind to die, but rather to live eternally. However, death, unfortunately, was the only solution to becoming one with Yahweh and being able to commune freely with the perfect holy God. If Adam had done things according to God’s commands, no death would ever have transpired and, since he didn’t have to die, neither would any of us. Sadly, because he was condemned to death, so we too have to die. Since death is in fact a curse, there’s no way it could possibly pleasant for anyone involved.

That being said, we have well established that this mortal body in which we reside is already condemned to death at conception thanks to Adam and Eve. When we choose to accept the death of the flesh (spiritually) while our spirit still resides in the body, we are choosing life, painful though the process may be. I understand that this is a difficult concept, so let’s see if we can simplify.

Eternal Life:

“These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life (I John 5:13, NAS).”

When we say to God, “I want eternal life through Jesus,” this should be (but is not in most cases) the moment that we surrender the sinful nature. What happens too often is people make a confession like this but have no knowledge of what it means except, “Woohooo, I’m not going to hell!” There seems to be a lack of comprehension that people are actually saying, “In choosing Christ, I choose to resign myself to the fact that anything I am outside of You is worthless. Bury everything in me that may lead me away from You, Father. I marry You; I commit myself to an intimate union (relationship of oneness) with You.” With this, one enters into the blood covenant because they choose death to the nature of the flesh.

The average believer seems to project the idea that, once a profession of Christ has been uttered, there is nothing left for the believer to do but go around getting everyone else saved from hell. The Bible says to “work out your salvation with fear and trembling” (Philippians 2:12). This verse strongly suggests that the profession is the beginning of a lifetime of growing into our relationship with Yahweh and coming into our own identity in who He has called us to be. The initial profession is not to be the end-all to a walk with God.

Tragically, most just go on about their daily routines awaiting the rapture, never coming into their Kingdom destiny or tapping into their spirit-man, or have any concept of dying so that they may live a blessed, fulfilled life in Christ on Earth! Sure, one may stop drinking, smoking, abusing drugs, carousing, cursing, or whatever, but if it is an act of the flesh based on it seems right, it is still false because the “doing” is not of Holy Spirit but of self-will.

The annulment between you and sin should come from a true desire to please Yahweh because of His never ending love for you. True transformation should stem from reverent fear of Almighty God; from a heart and spirit awareness of how much you have been forgiven – a place of utter humility and abandonment of self.

Much of the blame lies on the various denominations as a whole. So many preach and teach that we cannot hear the audible voice of God, there are no modern day prophets or apostles, God no longer speaks through dreams or visions, and there are no real miracles, signs or wonders today. The Lord is the same yesterday, today and forever! Nothing about Him has changed, but the hardness of the hearts of man has increased.

Enter the Blood Covenant, part III

Understanding We’ve Already Died:

Judgment was the result of the sin of one man (Romans 5:15-19). This judgment came to all men. Judgment is upon all flesh whether you are “good people” or bad in the eyes of the world or self. It took only one sin to defile all. But, praise God, since it only took one man to bring condemnation; it took only one act of righteousness through One Man for all to be justified! One act of disobedience equals condemnation for all. One act of pure obedience equals justification to all who receive.

Although we have no choice in being born into condemnation, we must choose to receive justification. In other words, your biological mother could not choose for you at natural birth to be born into righteousness. It is a conscious act that has to come from the individual. You must seek it. It is always available, but still you must accept and receive it of our own free will. Since you were naturally born into condemnation, you now must be born (a separate birth) into supernatural justification and sanctification.

Jesus Christ through His death and resurrection brought into the earthly realm the Blood Covenant; it is a better covenant than the covenant made to Abraham. The awesome thing is that you get the better covenant plus all the promises given to Abraham and his descendants. God has provided more than you can ever think or imagine. You must seek death in order for His promises to be revealed and to be accessible.

“For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh (Romans 8:2-3, NAS).”

As an aside, I love what this Scripture reads: “God did.” What the Law could not accomplish, what man could not accomplish, God did! He did not leave you without hope in your condemned state. He fulfilled willingly what could not be fulfilled through ordinary man.

Enter the Blood Covenant, part II

Forfeiture of Covenant Protection:

“For where a covenant is, there must of necessity be the death of the one who made it. For a covenant is valid only when men are dead, for it is never in force while the one who made it lives (Hebrews 9:16-17, NAS).”

When Christ followers walk according to their old fleshly man, they forfeit their covenant protection. Until you realize that you must die to daily rendering the flesh in which you dwell as inactive, covenant promises and protection will elude you while residing on earth. When a person of Christ sins, they reason “God will forgive me.” Truth be told, that person is already forgiven. Forgiveness was sealed for you and I at the cross therefore it is a non-issue. Breaking covenant with God, however, is the issue.

If you’re wondering what’s going wrong in your life in Christ with all your religious conduct and good deeds, maybe “life” isn’t your problem, but death is. Possibly you haven’t died to self and, more than likely, you didn’t realize that was a requirement for covenant activation. I didn’t know this for way too long.

Romans 6:1-11 (NAS): Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase…How shall we who died to sin still live in it? Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life… knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; for he who has died is freed from sin. Now if we have died with Christ…death no longer is master over Him…consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

We are called to die with Him in His death. The “newness of life” comes only after we crucify our flesh. It occurs to me through the reading of these Scriptures that when someone accepts Christ as Savior through His blood by repenting of the sin nature, they automatically enter into covenant with Yahweh. Unfortunately, many are saved from hell for a long time before they understand that the covenant has not been activated because they have not died to self or even understand how or that they need to. Some never understand. They continue to have all of the same problems and issues they had before salvation because they have no idea who they are in Christ. It is like having a vault full of billions of dollars, yet it is untapped because they do not know it exists or don’t know they have the key in their grasp. So it is with the average believer; they forfeit for lack of knowledge, therefore perish.

Most people never know their covenant promises. Most have zero understanding of how to tap into the limitlessness of God’s power and authority to overcome all obstacles. They never receive revelation or understanding about how to die with Him, that technically their flesh is already buried with Christ, therefore operating within the covenant always eludes them. I was this way until death of the flesh was revealed to me. I say again that there is no covenant activation without death of the flesh. It is the death for which He calls us that ushers freedom from sin.

Enter the Blood Covenant, part I

Covenant Protection:

As I mentioned in the last chapter, I had consigned myself back to Christ in February of 2000, after seven years of angry rebellion. However, too quickly I found myself right back in my fleshly ways resembling that of my rebellion. The result was becoming pregnant by a man that was not my husband. Our relationship was brief because I was quickly convicted (not quickly enough) of my sinful conduct. However, my covenant covering (Holy Spirit) was removed by my own actions of broken covenant.

Although God’s love for me never moved, as a result of my blatant disobedience, His covenant protection was. I was no longer living according to the Spirit but dead flesh. My soul was reactivated in an instant through lustful thinking allowing it to override the voice of Holy Spirit speaking into my spirit. I liken the flesh of mankind as unto a zombie we see in sci-fi movies. Though the person they once were is dead, as a zombie, the body moves at will all the while destroying everything in its wake.

It is of the utmost urgency to know, accept, and understand that one cannot enter into the blood covenant that Christ has freely offered until we choose death to the fleshly nature. Death activates God’s covenant. Disobedience, an act of the flesh, nullifies it.

“For where a covenant is, there must of necessity be the death of the one who made it. For a covenant is valid only when men are dead, for it is never in force while the one who made it lives (Hebrews 9:16-17, NAS).”

Man’s flesh cannot enter into a covenant because of its cursed condition. Nothing cursed can come into covenant with the pure and holy God. This is why Christ took the flesh of all mankind into the grave with Him –He crucified mankind – so as to allow us free access to the Kingdom of God. As we take up our own cross, we accept death as the only source of entrance into holy covenant. Although we’re technically already dead, it requires our acknowledgment. Because Jesus is the last sacrifice and He shed His own blood, we cannot receive the new blood of Christ until we are purged of the old blood of Adam.

We must, spiritually speaking, give up our old condemned blood (Adam’s) in order to receive the new pure blood (Christ’s). His blood was shed for us so that we may receive it. We are not obligated and we all have the right to keep our own. But, in doing so, we keep death eternal. God says in Deuteronomy that we “choose” life or death, blessing or curse. If we choose to keep our own blood, we choose a curse. We choose life only when we choose His life-giving blood, His covenant of blessing.

It is of the utmost importance to understand “dying to the flesh” so to validate and activate covenant with God. Merely saying the “sinner’s prayer” may grant access to heaven upon death of the physical body, but if the individual does not accept that he or she must die to his or her natural man and the desires thereof while here on earth, that person will never truly enter into covenant with Yahweh as intended. To reiterate, Christ crucified the flesh of all of mankind at His death, therefore it is dead. When we live according to the flesh (death), we give false-life to a dead thing causing much destruction.

Dead Flesh, Living Spirit, part IV

Posted on

WWGT cover front

True Circumcision:

Philippians 3:3 (NAS): for we are the true circumcision, who worship in the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh

Ephesians 2:3 (NAS): Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.

Your heart becomes circumcised when you die to yourself and live to Christ. Put no confidence in the flesh – it’s dead by definition! It is condemned and can breed only corruption – no exemptions. There is no exclusive club compiled of people who are born into righteousness. We are all born into the nature of the earth with our minds corrupt from birth.

Remember, you are born knowing evil, not good. You are born into the sin nature of Satan. There is no good person good enough that God would look upon them and say, “Okay, you, you and you are exempt from dying to the flesh because I like your style!”  Jesus said, “Why do you call me good? There is NO ONE GOOD but God.” (Matthew 19:16; Romans 7:18). True circumcision is spiritual and it is cutting out that which defiled you and your relationship with God – the nature of the fleshly man.

Baptized into His Death:

Galatians 2:20 (NAS): I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.

This is a very specific Scripture that, if we had no other, we see that the whole of mankind entered into death with Christ at the time of His physical death. This being so, “dying to the flesh” is actually not a matter of killing something alive but rather putting to death and nullifying the works of a dead thing. A life without Christ isn’t life at all – it is death no matter how alive one may appear. Once Adam and Eve were condemned to death, though they appeared alive, death was already at hand.

Romans 6:1-11 (NAS): … baptized into His death…so we too might walk in newness of life…so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; for he who has died is freed from sin. Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him. For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

“He who has died is freed from sin!” The only way for us to be freed from sin is to die, as I’ve covered extensively. This is not a physical dying, but spiritual. The text is clear and precise in its direction. When we choose to die with Christ, we are no longer allowed to give in to our own emotions, desires or passions (soulish ways) though you still feel what you feel. Now, because the very Spirit of Jesus Christ is in operation through you, He does your thinking, and gives you His desire.

This does not mean you become stupid excluding discernment and wisdom from daily life; on the contrary. It does mean that you consult Him before any action is taken on any level. When you choose self-discipline, He begins to work wisdom and discernment in you. The more you mature and grow in His love, the more natural the supernatural becomes – there is no longer separation between you and God, His will vs. your will – His will is your will.

Dead Flesh, Living Spirit, part III

Abstinence from the Flesh:

“Then Jesus said to His disciples, ‘If anyone wished to come after Me, he must deny himself…(Matthew 16:24-25, NAS).’”

I Thessalonians 4:3-8 (NAS): For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in lustful passion, like the Gentiles who do not know God; and that no man transgress and defraud his brother in the matter because the Lord is the avenger in all these things, just as we also told you before and solemnly warned you. For God has not called us for the purpose of impurity, but in sanctification. So, he who rejects this is not rejecting man but the God who gives His Holy Spirit to you.

We in our flesh do not have the capacity to abstain from anything of the world for very long, just like how I was when I first came back to Christ. Your flesh is weak. Once you choose through Holy Spirit that you no longer want your flesh to rule, you can then resign your flesh to death so that you may receive Holy Spirit anointing; that He may overtake your very way of thinking and operation in day to day life.

His light, The Light, is now in you and He separates (discerns) good from evil for and through you. His completed work at the cross is active through you. His light reveals the mess that is inside you just as He revealed of the condition of the earth in Genesis 1:2 – now deep cleansing can begin. Cleansing is for the purpose of making room for Him to live. Once clean, you must daily keep yourself clean.

The natural mind focuses on the things of the flesh, aka lustful passion. Once Holy Spirit is able to move in and take over, then you can begin to think with the mind of Christ, which is God’s desire. Because Christ crucified sinful flesh of all mankind, it is crucified permanently from God’s perspective. However, we are instructed to daily crucify the flesh consigning it to the death Christ enacted. You must consciously, every day, pray that He show you how to allow His life to overrule the old man. Then you can transition from praying and asking to declaring and decreeing His promises!

Because you still live in this earthen vessel, you must constantly pull down the natural ways. If the prophet Elijah and King David could find themselves in the situations they did after many years led by Holy Spirit, who are you or I to think we can allow our flesh to override the Spirit, even for a moment, and be blessed? You cannot neglect Holy Spirit for a millisecond. You cannot be carnal in any form and think it is okay with God just because He is the God of love. Your foolishness of lack of obedience is wasting God’s precious time. Align every moment of every hour so that you will be effective for God’s Kingdom expansion.

What Went Wrong?

“For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please (Galatians 5:17, NAS).”

“What happened?” you may ask and the answer is simple. I was led by my mind (that said “go ahead, this once won’t matter. You deserve some fun”), my will (which didn’t care one wit about God’s Word), and my emotions (telling me how good it would feel physically). There in play was my soul: mind, will and emotions I’ve already touched on throughout the chapters. Remember, this is what happened to Adam. At one point, I still did not understand the strategy of war or how to battle. I didn’t understand the Kingdom of God, how to fight the soul, or how Satan operated in me through my lack of knowledge of my identity in Christ.

The flesh is at enmity with the spirit. The natural man’s fleshly desire (death) wanted what it wanted. My spirit (life) wanted to please God but was overridden by my soul. Any enemy, natural or spiritual, will always overtake you if you don’t know who they are and how they operate. This is why we must learn how to die to everything that is not from Holy Spirit leading. The enemy works through any means possible to trick and trip you.

To recap the first few chapters, the only way to escape the curse of eternal death is to die to the flesh while living in a mortal temple. The only way to live again is to be born a second time into the Spirit of the Living God. When a follower of The Way is saved they are called out of the earthly nature and brought into the spiritual nature of God. Not only did Jesus literally give up His physical flesh on the cross, He denied or died to His flesh while living on the earth.

Surely He, before Satan came against Him on the mountain, was tempted while growing up with all the temptation of a normal human being; yet, He never sinned. The Word says so. Why is there so little understanding? This act of sinlessness throughout Jesus’ life shows you how to die to the flesh while living in this earthen vessel. He never took into consideration Himself or His own desires of the flesh. He denied Himself the pleasures of this world. He gave no leeway to the flesh though temptation was ever present.

To die to the flesh is to be selfless or no self involvement. No part of you is involved in any decision making; only Holy Spirit leading is allowed. You no longer take the old, dead earthly nature and it’s wants into consideration. As I have already stated, the absolute purpose of the physical body is to bring honor and glory to Yahweh, always and in everything. Your relationship is not a part time job, it’s your life.

This does not mean you cannot golf, fish, watch some television, read the paper, wear make-up or jewelry, work a job, etc. It does, however, mean that God is to be supreme ruler over all these things and you are not to allow anything to stand in the way of your Kingdom destiny. He wants you to enjoy the things of this earth as long as they do not interfere with His kingdom purpose. Everything must be in balance – something for which the world in unfamiliar. God’s perspective is the only perspective you are to recognize as valid.

We’ll pick up here next week as we continue with, Dead Flesh, Living Spirit, subtitle “Abstinence from the Flesh.” If you are interested in reading more, check out my website to order my books, or go to my Facebook ministry page where I post regularly. This writing is from chapter 6 of the revised version of, What Was God Thinking? Why Adam Had To Die.” Blessings!

II Corinthians 4:7-12 (NAS): But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves; we are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not despairing; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying about in the body the dying of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. For we who live are constantly being delivered over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. So death works in us, but life in you.

The Physical Body:

The purpose of the physical body of man is to bring honor and glory to God always and in everything; to become the living, breathing physical manifestation of Jesus Christ. The physical man is not brought back to life since it was cursed with death at The Fall and buried in death with Jesus. The physical man will ultimately die and go back to its original form of dust and ash. The spirit within, however, is awakened to new life. It is of the utmost importance to understand that the physical is not what Christ saves, but the spirit within man.

Many say incorrectly, “Christ-followers have two natures: that of the flesh and that of the Spirit.” Once a person is in Christ, they have one nature – the supernatural nature of Christ. The second nature is that of the flesh, the natural man, but it does not belong to us – it is no longer who we are. It is merely a temporary dwelling place; a “tent” as Paul calls it. It’s likened unto living in a hotel. No matter how long you live there, you do not own it; it is external from the “you” who dwells there. The things of the hotel, though you utilize the stuff, aren’t yours. We have to take care of the living quarters no matter how rundown or how ritzy. Basically, our spirit (merged with Holy Spirit) only lives temporarily in the shell – the human body – but neither the body itself or the nature of the body is your identity.

When I first rededicated my life to Christ in February 2000 after seven years of rebellion, I once again had awareness of my sinful state. It was my first encounter with Holy Spirit revealing things to me that had to be relinquished such as pride, control, rebellion, perversion, anger, unforgiveness, judgment, etc. For me, the most difficult thing to give up was sex outside of marriage. I smoked randomly and had never been drawn to alcohol. I had a gutter mouth after divorce and miscarriages but I had given that up. Once I dove into the Word and was convicted of fornication, I also willingly submitted it.

I did well for almost a year. The problem was that I did not understand this crucifixion of self. I strived in the natural to do what I had perceived was pleasing to Christ. I knew and even understood that premarital sex was an act of rebellion against God because the Bible plainly stated that as fact. Unfortunately, the drive of the flesh overtook me after eight or nine months and I found myself right back where I started. I could not understand what went wrong. I wanted to please God and I did not want to displease Him. Despite that, I still sinned willingly.

We’ll pick up here next week as we continue with, Dead Flesh, Living Spirit, subtitle “What Went Wrong?” If you are interested in reading more, check out my website to order my books, or go to my Facebook ministry page where I post regularly. This writing is from chapter 6 of the revised version of, What Was God Thinking? Why Adam Had To Die.” Blessings!

The Root of the Problem, part IX

New Origin:

I Corinthians 15:42-49 (NAS): So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown a perishable body, it is raised an imperishable body; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. So also it is written, “The first man, Adam, became a living soul.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit. However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural; then the spiritual. The first man is from the earth, earthy; the second man is from heaven. As is the earthy, so also are those who are earthy; and as is the heavenly, so also are those who are heavenly. Just as we have borne the image of the earthy, we will also bear the image of the heavenly.

Technically, Adam’s fall was God ordained. Adam had to fall in his natural body so as to find and receive his spirit-man while continuing to live in his mortal shell. Our natural origin is of the earth like Adam. Through death to our fleshly nature we can receive life from the heavenly origin through the life-giving Spirit. Once we receive Christ, our origin changes while we still inhabit a natural body; hence we are “strangers” in this land.

Our origin is now from the Kingdom of Heaven and not from earth. We are to take extra good care of the physical body while in it; it’s called good stewardship. We are to dress it respectfully; it is the temple of the living God. Our body is the necessary packaging God needs to perform in the earthly realm. We are not to mutilate it, maim it or hurt it in any way. The difference now is that we care for it on His behalf instead of our own.
