Chapter Thirteen: Igniting God’s Completed Work

Faith, faith, faith and more faith is the key to unlock the Kingdom of God and His power therein. When I read Hebrews 11 in its entirety, I stand amazed; first at God, and, secondly, at the people who withstood things most of us can’t fathom in their wildest nightmares. What these folks endured is nothing short of a miracle because they didn’t buckle, not even in the face of death. The chronicle of these mighty people of God reminds me of Matthew 10:28 which instructs, “do not fear those who kill the body, but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”

In this world and, more specifically, in the Church, people are far more concerned with what people think of them than being obedient to the Word of God (the expression of His power). Forget being concerned with being hung, beaten, burned or tortured in some capacity since we can’t get past being afraid of someone rejecting us. This is a sad fact but, looking around the churches, it’s evident. We are far more concerned with the opinion of our fellow man than following Christ outside the city walls no matter the repercussions.

How can we possibly walk an authentic life of faith if we can’t get past worrying about what someone thinks of us be it family, friends, co-workers, fellow church members, or whomever? This behavior does not and cannot please Yahweh. Having good intentions without faith cannot please Him; consequently, we squelch His power within us. When we are not walking in faith, God cannot materialize His completed work and then we’re left wondering, “Where’s God? Why isn’t He helping me? Where is His power now?” To quote my friend, Rachelle Freeman Sanders, “Faith doesn’t move God; faith is your positive response to what God has already done by grace. ‘Won’t He do it?’ you ask. No, He’s already done it!”

When you get to the place where you genuinely desire experiencing His power moving in your life, start with faith. This isn’t to insult where you are with Christ; it is simply a fact which applies to everyone. This is for me and this is for you. Faith is where Holy Spirit power ignition begins and ends and it usually comes prior to falling in love with Him. Faith is the vehicle which delivers into your life that which God has already accomplished before the foundation of the world (Hebrews 4:3). Everything past, present and future was perfected before the Earth was set in motion, we’re just watching it unfold over the centuries. How you operate in faith in the face of your most ferocious adversary will determine how far God can present and produce His completed work.

Faith is paramount to any Christ-follower. Faith is the ignition switch to God’s power and strength. The joy of the Lord is our strength (Nehemiah 8:10). Without faith, how can one have joy in Him? If we only have information about God with which we desire to share with others yet have no joy, where is the supernatural strength required to be displayed in everyday life so as to draw others to Christ?

We who desire earnestly to follow Christ must understand, all that is to be done is already accomplished. There is nothing more for Christ to do on your behalf. Money problems? Already solved. Children problems? Already resolved. Spousal problems? Already finished. Do you see? God sees the end from the beginning because, in God’s timing, the ending has already been fulfilled.

If this were inaccurate, how could God have spoken of Jesus in the Old Testament? How could the prophecies yet to come have been written? It’s because it’s already finished. Furthermore, how could Christ say in John 16:13, “But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.” The “what is to come” part reveals what already is but is yet to be. The truth is, according to the Spirit of God, all is already complete. We’re simply awaiting it’s unfolding.

***

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the men of old gained approval…and what more shall I say? For time will fail me if I tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets, who by faith conquered kingdoms, performed acts of righteousness, obtained promises, shut the mouths of lions, quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, from weakness were made strong, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight. Women received back their dead by resurrection; and others were tortured, not accepting their release, so that they might obtain a better resurrection; and others experienced mockings and scourgings, yes, also chains and imprisonment. They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were tempted, they were put to death with the sword; they went about in sheepskins, in goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, ill-treated (men of whom the world was not worthy), wandering in deserts and mountains and caves and holes in the ground. And all these, having gained approval through their faith, did not receive what was promised, because God had provided something better for us, so that apart from us they would not be made perfect. (Hebrews 11:1-2, 32-40, (NAS)

“and attaining to all the wealth that comes from the full assurance of understanding, resulting in a true knowledge of God’s mystery, that is, Christ Himself, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Colossians 2:2-3, NAS).”

Chapter 6: Becoming Base and Foolish, part I

“but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong, and the base things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are, so that no man may boast before God. (I Corinthians 1:27-29).”

Most view weakness as foolishness, as if it’s the worst thing that can happen to someone. Adversely, it’s when we weaken ourselves completely before the Father we are able to go beyond human ability. God purposes to nullify the things that are (anything of human ability) so that we have nothing left from which to boast or pull strength.

God has graciously granted mankind His image which includes a great many assets, gifts, attributes, talents, brains, brawn, and so on. His directive for such assets is so we may glorify the King and flourish in the Earth, subduing it as was intended in the Garden of Eden. We are to bring Heaven down to Earth. Unfortunately, mankind, in all its pride, has become more dependent upon such gifts from God in lieu of God. Instead of leaning upon Christ, we use them when we should submit them allowing God to utilize them for the good of all mankind. For instance, if you have a gift of prophecy, you may speak something out of your great intellect instead of waiting upon the Spirit to lead. This is using human power instead of Holy Spirit revelation. Furthermore, if you have a talent of painting, you may for the sake of a huge paycheck paint something not approved of God because you can. You did it with the mindset, “God must be blessing me” when it had nothing to do with God at all.

People who do subject everything to God are considered foolish, childish, silly, and worse. People say, “You can accomplish____________ in your own strength. Why do you call upon God?” These same people, in due season, become humbled by the same God on whom they spit. We who are hidden in Christ recognize we are nothing and no one outside the perfect will of God. We are to become as dust and ash as did Job at the end of his trials. He once leaned heavily on his abilities to accomplish all he did pre-trials. He stirred God’s wrath by justifying himself. Unlike the norm, Job finally saw the error of his ways, humbled himself and was then positioned before the Almighty to be doubly blessed.

When will we see from the perspective of Heaven? When will God’s people humble themselves, make themselves as nothing so that God may intervene? We’re so busy being angry with God for not stepping in or having allowed our predicament in the first place. We are remiss simply because we do not understand He’s attempting to bring us to foolishness so that He may be our wisdom, our solace, our Savior, our everything.

Encouraging Parents with Chronically Ill Children

Posted on Updated on

EncourageWordle

My name is Alexys V. Wolf. I am first and foremost a wife and mother of two beautiful teenage daughters, as well as a minister, author and artist. I founded The Fiery Sword Ministries in 2007 and have multiple published books dealing with a garden variety of spiritual issues. The purpose of this blog and group, Encouragement for Parents with Chronically Ill Children, is to aid fellow parents in their journey with sick children.

By way of introduction, my eldest daughter, Sophia, started getting sick at six months old with double ear infections, yet they were nothing spectacular; nothing that would send red flags of future chronic illness. She was otherwise a well child until the age of five when she developed chronic stomach aches and UTI’s. We dealt with those nearly a year. When the gastroenterologist performed at endoscopy, he said he found no acid reflux but she had severe unexplained constipation. Unfortunately, the acid reflux went undiagnosed many years because she would only experience it with antibiotics.

By the age of 8, around 3rd grade, the stomach aches worsened and her pediatrician said, “It’s psychosomatic.” Knowing my daughter, watching her day in and day out, I was positive the doctor was incorrect in her sloppy assessment. By 9, I began taking her to our G.P. who was much more responsive to Sophia’s needs. Her neck had been growing oddly several years yet, when I would inquire, multiple doctors blew it off as “that’s just how she’s growing. Nothing to worry about.” Lo and behold, by the age of 10, our G.P. said, “Don’t freak out, Alexys, but Sophia has a goiter.” I rejoiced!! I knew something was remiss and she was the first person to acknowledge it. As one would expect, the ultrasound revealed Hoshimoto’s thyroiditis.

That sent us on a crazy ride for which we are still sojourning. We went to several specialists locally, but we found better care out of town at MUSC (Medical University of South Carolina), a 2-3 hour drive depending on traffic. It so happens that they discovered additional autoimmune issues, hormonal issues, as well as stomach problems.

I have refrained from speaking publically because there are certain aspects one simply doesn’t want to share with the world. Of course, I do share some within the confines of my various books, but that isn’t a public forum like social media. Not everyone will read my books, but anyone anywhere can run across my blog. Notwithstanding, I knew it was time to speak so as to help those whom I am able with daily living with a sick child. It is definitely no picnic. Along with the physical sickness, a parent has to eventually deal with the mental, emotional and spiritual toll it takes on someone who should, by all accounts, be running, jumping and playing with their friends without a care in the world. They should be fretting over silly things such as completing homework, who likes who at school, discovering interest in the opposite sex, attending school and church and their respective functions; what clothes to wear to this or that social event.

But, to our chagrin, they concern themselves with getting in their daily meds and whether or not they’ll be able to feel well enough to get out of bed on any given day. As the parent, it’s so frustrating watching teen groups at church prepare to minister overseas or in another state and not one person in that group knows my kid’s name. The sick are most definitely the forgotten. As a parent, it is heartbreaking. Not only is your child sick, but you are blatantly aware of all they’re missing. The common joys of life elude them.

In the following months, I will be addressing many issues which waylay, not only the children, but the parents and how I deal with them on a spiritual, physical, mental and emotional level. My directive is not to have a support group, per se, but rather a group of people with common interests and goals so as to encourage and enlighten one another. Granted, my child is not dying of cancer or anything of the sort as she comes in and out of wellness; although, as of late, there’s more illness than wellness. I don’t pretend to have all the answers, but we can certainly rally together with the intention of being comforted as well as grow in faith, strength and encouragement.

As a minister, I am an avid believer of hope in the Lord Jesus Christ as well as the power of supernatural healing; I have both witnessed it and experienced it for myself. In fact, Sophia, like my previous 7 pregnancies, was dead in my womb until, one day, two men of God were sent our way. They prayed powerfully in way I was yet to learn. In that prayer, God later revealed that, in fact, Sophia was dead but He sent these men to speak life into Sophia’s otherwise dead little body. That being said, I also know there are times where we don’t see what we think we ought to given the power of Christ within us. It’s in those times when an explanation fails us that we need to come together seeking the Word and will of the Father who is faithful.

As for our household, we have covered every known area spiritually and physically. We have laid on hands with elders, anointed with oil, bound away evil spirits, released Holy Spirit upon her and our home, broken generational curses and applied the blood of Jesus, repented, praised and so on. We’ve changed our diet, gone to specialists and taken the proper steps. In all this, we wait upon the Lord, trust in His sovereignty, and take things one day at a time. We place our trust in the Living Hope of Jesus.

Psalm 27:11-14: Teach me Your way, O Lord, and lead me in a level path because of my foes. Do not deliver me over to the desire of my adversaries, for false witnesses have risen against me, and such as breathe out violence. I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and let your heart take courage; yes, wait for the Lord.

Enter the Blood Covenant, part IV

The Blessed Covenant:

“For where a covenant is, there must of necessity be the death of the one who made it. For a covenant is valid only when men are dead, for it is never in force while the one who made it lives (Hebrews 9:16-17, NAS).”

“‘This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws upon their heart, and on their mind I will write them,’ He then says, ‘And their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.’ Now where there is forgiveness of these things, there is no longer any offering for sin (Hebrews 10:16-18, NAS).”

“For this reason He is the mediator of a new covenant, so that, since a death has taken place for the redemption of the transgressions that were committed under the first covenant, those who have been called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance (Hebrews 9:15, NAS).”

“Since a death has taken place,” stated in Hebrews 9, you are to take up the cross (death) with Christ; the One who made the covenant already gave His life. If you are a member of the Body of Christ and do not die to the flesh regularly, know that you are just running around aimlessly quoting Scripture to no avail. You are going through motions that are meaningless to God because they are of the flesh. Anything you do that is not Holy Spirit instructed is as wood, hay and stubble to God – worthless from and eternal Kingdom, standard.

You must care for your physical body because it is the temple of the Living God. However, you must be emptied of the sinful nature so that Holy Spirit may freely move through you and also that you may be free, with Him and in Him. It is for your benefit as well as the Kingdom of God.

“It is not the children of the flesh who are children of God, but the children of the promise who are regarded as descendants (Romans 9:8, NAS).”

The Scribes and Pharisees claimed to be “descendants” because they were in the physical bloodline of Abraham. This Scripture (and those along with it) states that the covenant of the Son comes through faith in Christ. The flesh has no covenant with God. It is our spirit that receives Christ through faith. All who enter into covenant with the Father are true descendants of Abraham and have access to all the promises given to him and through him.

The Seal of Promise:

“In  Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise (Ephesians1:13, NAS).”

“Remember that you were at that time separate from Christ, excluded from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world (Ephesians 2:12, NAS).”

“To be specific, that the Gentiles are fellow heirs and fellow members of the body, and fellow partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel (Ephesians 3:6, (NAS).”

Holy Spirit is the Seal of Promise. He is the mark of God. Without Holy Spirit brought to life by the flesh having been put to death, how will God know you? How will the demons know you? How will man know you? Two lives cannot reside in one body. The flesh of man is perpetually at war with the Spirit of God. Death to the worldly way of thinking and doing, the lusts of the flesh, brings us into covenant relationship with the Father, your Husband. It brings you into access to all of the blessings of the covenant but disobedience breaks covenant protection. This is why He calls you to die daily; He wants you to inherit all that is His and He has given instruction how to attain it. He withholds nothing from us; it is we who withhold His hand.

Prayer:

I release myself to You totally and completely without reservation. Show me how to die daily to the fleshly nature in which I was originally born and how to allow Your Holy Spirit full access to all of me. Make me mindful that I am an heir to the Promise through Your Spirit and not through external actions of my flesh. I thank You, Jesus, that by Your stripes, I am healed and by Your wounds, I have been transferred from death unto light. I bless You, Almighty, that You did not leave me abandoned, but adopted me as a rightful heir to the Kingdom of God. Amen.

Rest in Re-established Order, Part III

In Our Image, Multiply and Rule:

“God blessed them…and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves (creeps) on the earth(Genesis 1:28, NAS).

Right away we see that there were only blessings to reap. God’s law of increase (be fruitful and multiply) is fully intact. This law cannot change. It was meant for increased blessings not increased curses. Because of sin, the law worked against man instead of for us.

God gave man authority over “every living thing that moves on the earth.” Adam was to subdue (to guard, rule and reign as kings over a kingdom ruling all living things) earth. I suggest Myles Monroe’s book, Rediscovering the Kingdom for a more detailed explanation. He is quite thorough.

Spirit to Spirit:

“Then the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being (Genesis 2:7, NAS).

Adam was formed from dust and God breathed life into him. He was alive physically, still his spirit was asleep. It is like us today. When someone comes out of darkness and into the holy light of Christ, they receive His life breath as did Adam. That life ushers Holy Spirit into our spirit. However, that doesn’t mean that the Spirit-to-spirit connection is functioning.

There is generally an awakening, or rather a season where we go from possessing Holy Spirit to becoming possessed by Holy Spirit. Adam possessed the life of God, His breath, yet the life of God did not yet possess him; consequently, he fell.

Only a select few throughout the Old Testament were anointed with Holy Spirit such as David, Elijah, Abraham and the prophets of old. Spiritually, this is still how we are born into Christ. Without His life giving breath (spirit), we are dead in our sins. Likewise, without the awakening of our spirit-man, for our necessary Spirit-to-spirit relationship, we are incapable of becoming who and what God has created us to be, individually and collectively; for our personal lives and for the Kingdom of God.

Our spirit, when quickened to life, is split from our soul. Hebrews 4:12 makes this clear: “For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”

Holy Spirit is the key element in this spiritual walk so as to not be deceived and devoured by the enemy as was Adam. We must consign our flesh wholly; this means the earthly, sinful, old Adamic nature. The only way to be like God as was His original intent is to be overtaken by Holy Spirit through surrendering the fleshly nature completely; or in other words, die to self allowing His life to rule supreme. Keep in mind that death here is a spiritual term meaning that we do not allow ourselves to be led by the world’s way of thinking or doing. With new birth in Christ, we now seek Holy Spirit for every breath, word, thought and deed that comes from, to, and through us.

Hope you’ll come back next week as we continue this topic. It requires careful study so as to clear some long-standing misconceptions. If you are interested in reading more, check out my website to order my books, or go to my Facebook ministry page where I post regularly. Blessings!

Rest in Re-established Order, part II

Image

In Our Image:

“Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth (Genesis 1:26, NAS).’”

This is the first reference to the Trinity. It was not used until the making of Adam. Mankind has the capacity, as God freely gave, to be as God. Carefully watch where this is going. It was not and is not His plan for anyone to overthrow Him through pride as man would like to do, much like Satan and those at the tower of Babel attempted. His plan was and is for mankind to be able to commune with Him on His level as one entity as a friend and constant companion. God cannot re-create Himself – He is the Triune God. Any attempt He has or would make to re-create Himself will fall short because there is only One.

Authority was given to man over every “creeping thing.” Before Satan (a creeping thing) showed himself, mankind had authority over him. Unfortunately, Adam refused to assert his authority. “Let Us make man,” the Word states in verse 26. Once again, make is not create. As this verse would suggest, man of some sort had previously been “created” before Adam.

Allow me, if you will, a moment of pause to elaborate. I am often asked, “what about dinosaurs and cavemen and all the scientific findings of life before Adam.” To this question I respond thusly: The Bible is the lineage of Adam and restored life to a wrecked earth. If you were to write a book of the lineage of your family, it would leave out a lot of information because the focus is specifically your family history.

As we continue to see the difference between “made” and “created,” we’ve just pointed out that the word “make” is used in reference to Adam prior to the next text of “created.” My theory based on the first few texts of Genesis is that, on earth prior to it becoming void, shapeless and covered in darkness, there was God’s first creation of man – possibly those which we lovingly refer as cavemen. They were not created in God’s image. After God restored the earth and filled it, He then created a new type of man, the difference between the former and the latter is the “in Our image” part. It’s a tiny detail that’s actually quite huge! Let’s now continue to verse 27.

“God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them (Genesis1:27, NAS).

Here we see the word created. Man, the way we are present day, is in fact a creation, meaning a new and improved version of man. The creation part was allowing man to possess the “image of God.” To reiterate, the original creation of man was not “in the image of God.”

Genesis chapter 5 confirms that the Bible is the lineage of Adam, but it certainly does not mean that nothing went on prior to Adam because upon review, it’s obvious something significant happened! Why do we limit God? I agree that anything before Adam is strictly speculation; if Yahweh wanted us to know details, He would have written them. I simply say again that we need to read the Scriptures accurately, and not as we have always heard. We are all called to study to show ourselves approved and to test every spirit.

The Problem with Adam:

The problem I see with Adam is that he was merely an image. I liken him unto a mirror image. When we look into a mirror, we see an exact replica of self. However, the image is lacking because it is one dimensional and it is not the genuine article; it’s an illusion of reality.

Adam was not God. Although Adam did have a soul (mind, will and emotions), his spirit was dormant and could not commune properly with the living God who is a spirit being. He was yet to be filled with Holy Spirit because, prior to His fall, God was externally present, directing and instructing. It was his soul that led him to break God’s commandment and do as the woman instructed. Because of emotions, Adam chose Eve’s instruction over God’s. He was supposed to use his God-given soul power to rule the earth, not to be led into disobedience.

Hope you’ll come back next week as we continue this topic. It requires careful study so as to clear some long-standing misconceptions. If you are interested in reading more, check out my website to order my books, or go to my Facebook ministry page where I post regularly. Blessings!

What Do You Really Believe, part II

Posted on

When I hear long-time people of God say that they have never doubted God, I immediately know that they are trying to project their perception (interpretation) of holiness when they are simply lying to themselves and others. We must understand the destruction of such a lie. It leaves people feeling worse about themselves because they feel helpless by never being able to attain such faith.

Those who are completely honest must confess that they have doubted somewhere along the line, even if only a glimmer that shot across their mind for a millisecond. The more people refuse total honesty about the matter, even with the best of intentions so to not lead someone astray, the more people fall away. This is because no one can live up to such a high standard of perfection. How can one learn how to overcome by the blood of the Lamb lest they see the example of seasoned Christ-followers who have already overcome?

When I hear that someone strong in the Lord admits to having, at some point on some level, doubted God, it reminds me that we can ALL overcome doubt and fear – THIS is HOPE. The more we pretend to be something we are not in any area of life, the more of a mess it makes for onlookers. Stop lying. Regular people need to see that you’ve had real obstacles, doubts and insecurities and that only through the truth of the Kingdom of God could you be where you are now (in a strong, intimate relationship with the Lord) and where you are going (an ever closer walk with Him so to expand the Kingdom of God).

There is always freedom in truth so let us all stop being so afraid of it. Fear causes destruction. Faith, truth, hope and the love of God bring the building up of the weak. The truth will always incite respect whether it’s pleasant to hear or not. This is, as they say, real talk.
